How do you accommodate children with special needs?
At Family Taekwondo Plus in Citrus Heights, we believe martial arts should be accessible to every child. We proudly welcome students with special needs, ADHD, autism, and other learning differences, and we work closely with families to help each student succeed at their own pace. Our instructors receive additional training in working with students who need extra support. This training focuses on patience, communication, positive reinforcement, and adapting instruction so every child can understand and participate comfortably. When needed, we also provide extra staff support during class to help guide students through drills, maintain focus, and ensure they feel safe and successful. Our goal is to create an environment where every child feels encouraged, respected, and included. Taekwondo can be especially beneficial for children with special needs because it helps develop structure, routine, focus, coordination, and confidence. Many students thrive with the clear expectations and positive reinforcement that martial arts training provides. Most importantly, we take time to get to know each student as an individual. We work with parents to understand their child’s needs and make thoughtful adjustments so they can fully participate and enjoy the benefits of Taekwondo. At Family Taekwondo Plus, our mission is to help every student grow stronger, more confident, and proud of what they can achieve—both on and off the mat. 🥋

How does Taekwondo help kids who struggle with confidence or bullying?
At Family Taekwondo Plus in Citrus Heights, our children’s Taekwondo program helps kids develop confidence, focus, and important life skills while learning practical bully-prevention strategies. Martial arts training gives children the tools they need to feel strong, capable, and prepared to handle challenges both in school and in everyday life. Taekwondo helps children build self-confidence by setting achievable goals and celebrating progress through belt advancement and skill development. As students learn new techniques and overcome challenges, they begin to believe in themselves and their abilities.
Will martial arts make my child more aggressive?
Taekwondo training actually helps reduce aggressive behavior by giving kids a structured outlet for energy while teaching important life skills such as patience, focus, and emotional control. Students practice listening, following instructions, and showing respect to instructors, classmates, and themselves. Martial arts also help children develop confidence and strong character. When kids feel confident and capable, they are less likely to act out aggressively and more likely to make positive decisions.
What makes your school different from other martial arts schools?
Our programs also emphasize character development and bully prevention. Students learn confidence, discipline, respect, and leadership skills that help them succeed both on and off the mat. We regularly work with local schools and community programs to promote positivity, anti-bullying, and confidence building for kids in the Citrus Heights area. Another difference is our long-standing commitment to the community. Family Taekwondo Plus has been serving Citrus Heights families for over 20 years, helping thousands of students build confidence and life skills through martial arts training.
Does my child need to be athletic to start?
No. Your child does not need to be athletic to begin Taekwondo. At Family Taekwondo Plus in Citrus Heights, many students start with little or no sports experience. Our program is designed to help children build strength, coordination, balance, and confidence step by step. Taekwondo is about personal growth and effort, not about being the fastest or strongest. Every student progresses at their own pace while learning new skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.
